Watch Hebe’s video for ‘Limits’

Following her singles ‘Tell Me’, “Take Him Down” and ‘I Knew It from the Start’ HEBE has announced the released the video for her latest track ‘Limits.’

‘Limits’ is another example of the contrasting style that HEBE demonstrates in her music. The upbeat melody carries her soulful vocals throughout the electro-induced song. Directed by Monika Vaskorova, a Slovakian filmmaker the ‘Limits’ video is more like an abstract piece of art.  HEBE’s concept for the video was for the listener to see the world as she does. Set in a mountainous, grassy area dancers cloaked in bold colours move around her closing in until she breaks free. Upon closer inspection, the veiled dancers make similar movements to that of our everyday lives.

“‘Limits’ is a cry for honesty” says HEBE “We are fooling ourselves with the games we play, new ways of saying things. We are scared for the truth, but forget how to be sincere and honest with each other.”

HEBE is currently touring the Netherlands with Popronde (a travelling festival) and will be in London come November for a few shows.

Shannon Lay releases new album Living Water

Following her debut solo-album All This Life Going Down and her second full-length album for 2017 Shannon Lay has announced the release of her Living Water album. The album was released September 22nd via Mare Records – a label specifically started by Kevin Morby for Shannon.

Guitarist for a garage-punk band Shannon embarked on a solo career with a completely different feel to the fiery intensity that is Feels. A toned down and soulful Shannon boasts mellow guitar picking and elegant vocals in Living Water. In support of the album’s release, she has dropped 3 singles; ‘The Moon’s Detriment’, ‘Coast’ and ‘Recording 15.’

She said of her solo releases: “I really loved recording All This Life Going Down, but it was a very timid experience for me. I was new [to working alone], and I feel like on that record, I’m almost whispering.” On Living Water, “I’m really projecting in a different way, and saying a lot more. I wanted to make a statement with this record and affect people in a different way.”

With her next record already in progress, have a listen to ‘The Moon’s Detriment’ while you wait – it won’t be long now:

Applepie + Bjurman continue their collaboration with ‘Waltz Of Despair’

After considerable success with their previous release ‘Drowning World,’ Andrew Applepie and Sandra Bjurman are cooking up another recipe for success. ‘Waltz Of Despair ft. Bjurman’ has just been released and looks set to follow the success of their previous collaboration, which racked up over 1.7 million views on Youtube channel Mr Suicide Sheep, as well as additional support from tastemaker publications such as Konbini, Earmilk, C-Heads, Paste Mag among others.

At the time, neither of them knew that ‘Drowning World’ would be the beginning of a very successful collaborative engagement,  inspiring them to work on more music together. Bjurman had 5 more songs for an upcoming EP and was about to start production. Thats where the idea was born to create an “Applepie Version” for each song, and release both tracks in a parallel manner. Their contrasting persona’s create an interesting juxtaposition – the dark charismatic songstress, and the happy-go-lucky producer.

And thus, ‘Waltz Of Despair’ was born. Andrew expanded on Sandra’s theme of changes in life by emphasising the beauty and melancholy that goes with them. “When you step a way for a second and reminisce about how life is moving on and you let go of some things and gain some new perspectives and you’re happy and a little sad at the same time” he says.

Mysterious vocalist Flikka releases debut song ‘Ellington’

Swedish vocalist Flikka has released her debut song titled Ellington – A sad love ballad that has an unusual take on love. Her melancholy vocals accompany a simple melody, giving insight to her unique sound. Although the lyrics are heartbreaking, she sings so delicately that anyone wants to fall in love despite her ‘warning’. “Only a fool does it twice..” but you would be a fool if you don’t get the urge to listen to it again and again.

The singer had the following to say about the song; “I don’t think that you really overcome a certain type of love and that we’re not meant to overcome it either. Some love just break you down, shape you and no matter of time or water passing during bridges; some feelings will never change. Some people will always get you unstable and I think that it is something beautiful. A life can be shaped of changes and circumstances but feelings can remain beyond our control. I don’t know why that thought makes me feel safe and frightened at the same time. But that is what Ellington is about.”

She has been compared to the likes of Regina Spektor and Lana Del Rey but who is Flikka? While we wait in hopes of her releasing some more music, you can listen to Ellington here:
